Vivi & Clark

Tail-Wagging Mascots
Ryan and Steve’s vision for The Lady Mary Inn was always about way more than merely offering people a place to spend a night or two. Their heartfelt desire was to create an environment so welcoming, comforting and relaxing that it immediately conjured up the magical feeling of truly being whole-heartedly welcomed home. And nothing says welcome home—even for first-time guests—quite like being greeted by the boundless enthusiasm and loving exuberance of two tail-wagging canine mascots: Vivi and Clark!

A Place to Roam, Play and Explore
Ryan and Steve both knew that not long after their purchase of Orchard Hill Farm welcoming a dog - or two - into their lives would follow.  Truth be told, one of biggest motivations for buying the farm was to have an ideal spot for a couple of medium-to-large breed canine companions to roam, play and explore!

The boxer breed in particular held a special place in Ryan’s heart, thanks to his grandparents speaking so very fondly about one that they had once had. So Ryan and Steve were overjoyed in June 2017 when a fawn-colored female puppy was welcomed into their family and their lives.

In the Spirit of the Stars
Before Vivi was given the name Vivi, Ryan and Steve considered calling her Scarlett after the lead character from “Gone With The Wind.” But seeing whereas Ryan’s then-boss had just named her newborn baby girl Scarlett, some potentially awkward talk about dog and baby names was avoided when Vivi (an ode to Vivien Leigh, the actress who played Scarlett) was selected as an alternative. The name rang true instantly, and today Ryan and Steve can’t imagine her being named anything but Vivi! Just try not being enraptured by her star-like qualities!

And you know what they say: once you’ve added one playful loving boxer to your family, you just gotta add another! This time, Ryan and Steve knew they wanted a male boxer. And, really, there was only one name that would fit: Clark Gable. Clarkie was brought into the fold through an adoption agency. He was a fragile four months, very malnourished, scared, and timid.

In practically no time at all, Clark was lovingly "adopted" by his new big sister and the two are now inseparable. They’ve become the Inn’s two irreplaceable canine mascots, whether they are chasing each other around the lush grounds or cozying up on the broad front porch for a nuzzle or belly rub.

As the Family Grows, The Love Expands
Vivi and Clark are very much a part of Ryan and Steve’s family—life without them is unimaginable. Knowing how ingrained dogs become in a family’s day to day routine, Ryan and Steve decided to make the Lady Mary Inn dog-friendly, whole heartedly welcoming to other people's four-legged family members.

The Lady Mary Inn’s Trillium suite and Aster suite are both dog-friendly.  To make sure all guests, two and four- legged are comfortable, please review all of our pet policies before making a reservation.
